Cassia

Cassia was looking for a change of pace after working in the field of social work. Now she’s working in a profession that fulfills her active lifestyle.

Meet Cassia

“The decisions that require us to go outside of our comfort zone are the ones that have the best outcome and it’s a decision that I’ll never regret.”

Cassia was working in the field of social work when she decided it was time for a change.

“I needed a change of pace,” she recalls.

Cassia had taken some trades classes previously in high school and realized that she enjoyed working with her hands. She also enjoyed rock climbing in her spare time, and was hoping to find an occupation that incorporated those interests.

Cassia began researching possible careers and came across the Vestas Wind Turbine Readiness program at Women Building Futures (WBF), a three-week course designed to prepare women to become entry-level wind turbine technicians.

The profession checked all the boxes that Cassia was looking for in a new career. The financial support and length of program were additional factors that encouraged Cassia to go for it.

Cassia applied for the program and got accepted into the first cohort of the Vestas Wind Turbine Readiness program. In May 2022, Cassia completed her training.

“The decisions that require us to go outside of our comfort zone are the ones that have the best outcome and it’s a decision that I’ll never regret.”

Since graduating, Cassia has been employed as a wind turbine technician with Vestas, the program sponsors.

Cassia loves what she does and is excited of the prospect of growing in the industry.

“This is a job where I can see myself growing and expanding not only as a wind turbine technician but possibly going on to [other careers in the industry like] blade technician or working on other sites,” she says.

Cassia shares some words of encouragement to those considering applying to the program:

“There’s nothing more exciting than being hundreds of feet off the ground. I think for those who are uncertain about that initial change, I would say just go for it [and] get good knee pads!”
