Syncrude Heavy Equipment Operator
Heavy equipment operators drive and operate many different types of equipment including heavy hauler trucks, crawler dozers, graders, hydraulic and electric shovels, as well as other heavy equipment up to 400 tons.
This 2-week program followed by a co-op is designed to prepare students with the essential entry hands-on skills to begin a career as a heavy equipment operator.

Description
Heavy equipment operators drive and operate many different types of equipment including heavy hauler trucks, crawler dozers, graders, hydraulic and electric shovels, as well as other heavy equipment up to 400 tons.
The Syncrude Heavy Equipment Operator Program is a two-week classroom training program to prepare women to begin their careers as a heavy equipment operator. This is a competitive program, with 16 seats available, and tuition is covered by Syncrude for successful applicants. Classroom training consists of two weeks, a combination of in-person in Fort McMurray and virtual, followed by 364 days of paid hands-on training by Syncrude in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Admission Requirements
- Proof of residence in Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
- Class 5 Drivers License (non-graduated)
- Clean Drivers Abstract (3 years) – Will be requested when required
- High School Diploma/GED or transcript

Program Cost
Tuition for this program is funded by Syncrude.
Employment Opportunities
Upon completion of this program, students will be prepared to begin an entry level role as a heavy equipment operator with Syncrude in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Students will receive ongoing support from a WBF Alumni Advisor during training and the paid co-op term to ensure career success.
