The Suncor Haul Truck program is a 2-week training opportunity followed by a 6-month paid co-op to prepare graduates to start their careers as haul truck operators.

Classroom training consists of 2 weeks, a combination of virtual and in-person in Fort McMurray, followed by up to a 6–month paid co-op at one of Suncor’s Fort McMurray sites.

Description

There is rarely a dull day in the career of a haul truck operator. This exciting career will allow you to reach new heights and test your strength as you learn how to operate a haul truck that moves up to 400 tons of material.

The Suncor Haul Truck program is a 2-week training opportunity followed by a 6-month paid co-op to prepare students to begin their career as a haul truck operator. Tuition for this competitive program is covered by Suncor for successful applicants.

You’ll build confidence, learn the ins and outs of the workplace and have hands-on training and support to guide you through the program and your career beyond.

Admission Requirements

  • Full class 5 Alberta driver’s licence. Abstract will be requested
  • Need to be able to work in a physically demanding job; mental stamina to succeed
  • Applicants must not be working on a Suncor/Syncrude site for Suncor or any contractors
  • No previous haul truck operator experience
  • High School Diploma or GED/CAEC (if completed out of country an equivalency assessment is required) 
  • Drug, alcohol and fitness testing required
  • Criminal record check will be completed by Suncor

 

Wood Buffalo region residents

  • Currently residing in Wood Buffalo region (minimum of 3 months) proof of residency required

 

Fly In – Fly Out (outside of Wood Buffalo region)

  • Currently residing within 150 kilometres of Suncor’s Edmonton or Calgary flight hub. Proof of residency required

 

Applicants are responsible for the cost of all required documentation, except the criminal record check, which will be completed by Suncor.

  • Travel and accommodations for the WBF 2-week training will be provided, as required

Employment Opportunities

Upon completion of this program, graduates will embark on up to a 6-month paid co-op with program sponsors Suncor at one of their Fort McMurray sites.
