Description

A free 3-week virtual program (offered in the evenings to accommodate those in school or working during the day) designed for unemployed (currently not working as of February 15, 2026)  or underemployed (working less than 20 hours per week) women and gender-diverse individuals who are registered apprentices in industries such as construction and oil & gas.

Graduates will also gain access to Women Building Futures’ ongoing wrap-around services, including career coaching, mentorship, and employment connections, ensuring long-term support beyond the program.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites to apply:

•Registered Apprentice

  • minimum 6 months experience in industry
  • registered as 1st, 2nd or 3rd year apprentices (sponsored) 
  • in trades such as electrical, carpentry, HVAC, insulating, ironworking, pipefitting and more

•Must be an Alberta resident

A class 5 driver’s licence (GDL accepted)

Clean criminal record check (recommended) 

 

 

Admissions Steps:

  • Program interview
  • Successful completion of fitness screening (35 lb. or 50 lb. lift/carry) and drug & alcohol assessment

Program Cost

  • Tuition for this program is sponsored by the Government of Alberta
  • Additional funding and awards may be available to support living expenses while in the program.

After finishing the program, graduates will be interviewed for trade-level opportunities with WBF employment partners.
