Nineteen women have taken an important first step toward exploring careers in the skilled trades as they begin the Journey to Trades program at Women Building Futures.
On October 26, 19 women began Journey to Trades Cohort 128, bringing together a group eager to learn, build new skills and take their first steps toward careers in the skilled trades.
The program kicked off with a strong focus on safety, preparation, and industry readiness. During their first week, students completed orientation, obtained their Standard First Aid certification, and began earning essential safety credentials such as CSTS and WHMIS. Along the way, they explored industry best practices and workplace expectations that will support their success throughout training and into employment.
But the Journey to Trades experience is about more than training.
From the beginning, students are encouraged to build connections with one another and create a learning environment grounded in support, respect and safety. Those relationships become an important part of the experience as students learn together, try new things and build confidence in their abilities.
A consistent connection throughout the journey
Supporting Cohort 128 throughout their training is Babs, a Women Building Futures program facilitator and an important part of their Journey to Trades experience.
Babs will work alongside the students from their first week through to graduation, providing consistent guidance and encouragement as they build new skills, gain confidence and navigate new experiences. Having that trusted connection throughout the program helps create an environment where students feel supported as they learn, challenge themselves and prepare for what comes next.
For many students, Journey to Trades is an opportunity to discover not only what careers exist in the skilled trades, but what they are capable of and where their skills and interests could take them.
Cohort 128 is just getting started. Over the weeks ahead, these 19 women will continue learning, gaining hands-on experience and preparing to take their next steps toward careers in the skilled trades.
Welcome, Cohort 128. Here’s to the learning, growth and opportunities ahead.
