Professional Class 1 Driver

In 9 weeks, you won’t just have your Class 1 licence—you’ll be prepared for a career as a professional driver.

With a Class 1 driver’s licence, you can legally drive almost any commercial vehicle, including trailers equipped with air brakes. You’ll be ready for a career in trucking and transportation, including local, short-haul and long-haul driving.

About the training program

In 9 weeks, you’ll learn the essential skills to enter the commercial transportation industry. We’ll prepare you with hands-on training and classes covering safety, workplace culture and theory.

This program is carried out in partnership with industry experts and a certified driver training school, and it’s endorsed by the Alberta Motor Transport Association.

What you’ll learn

  • Basic safety certifications
  • Driver training and practice time with licenced drivers
  • Workplace culture and financial literacy
  • Interview and resume workshops to support employment
  • Ongoing mentorship and support through alumni advisors

Opportunities for graduates

After you finish the program, graduates will be interviewed for entry-level driving positions with WBF employment partners.

 

Admission Requirements

What you need to apply:

  • Full class 5 Alberta driver’s licence (no GDL)
  • A clean 5-year commercial driver’s abstract with no infractions
  • Must be an Alberta resident

Applicants will also need to complete a variety of steps as part of their application.

The next class is scheduled to start in March 2025. Applications will open in late October 2024.
