With a Class 1 driver’s licence, you can legally drive almost any commercial vehicle, including trailers equipped with air brakes. You’ll be ready for a career in trucking and transportation, including local, short-haul and long-haul driving.

About the training program

In 12 weeks*, you’ll learn the essential skills to enter the commercial transportation industry. Training includes a government-mandated number of hours for in-class, in-yard and in-vehicle modules.

Training consists of 3 weeks of full-time, in-class training, followed by 9 weeks of part-time, in-yard and in-vehicle training.

This program is carried out in partnership with industry experts and a certified driver training school, and it’s endorsed by the Alberta Motor Transport Association.

*Length may vary due to road test and student availability.

What you’ll learn

  • Basic safety certifications
  • Driver training and practice time with licenced drivers
  • Workplace culture and financial literacy
