Annette

Annette didn’t see a future in waitressing. Now she’s in a career that will allow her to work happily until retirement.

Meet Annette

Annette thought of herself as a career waitress until a friend she worked with moved on from waitressing to become a welder. Seeing her friend break into a male-dominated industry was “like a light went off,” she recalls. “I thought, if she can do it, why can’t I?”

That moment of realization led Annette to learning about Women Building Futures and pursuing the Journeywoman Start program over 10 years ago. After graduation she entered the Pipefitter trade. She continued to prioritize education and has consistently taken steps to advance her career.

Three years ago, Annette completed her Level 1 Rope Tech certification through WBF, and in 2021 she graduated from our Power Engineer Career Accelerator program. “I was excited to go into power engineering because I felt it was a natural progression from pipefitting. It’s something I can do until I retire,” she shares.

Annette is currently working as a Process Operator and completing the required hours towards her Power Engineering designation.

“Women Building Futures has always been there for me. When you take one of their programs you gain a whole community of people you can lean on throughout your career.”
